An Enemy of the People In 1939 my late father, Lukasz Szpakowski was arrested by the NKVD and deported from Eastern Poland, now Bielarus, to Siberia. In this piece we hear his own account of his early life and of the event itself set against an original musical score and manipulated folk music recordings. His English was completely idiosyncratic and at one point he is switching between three languages. I have provided, not quite a translation, but a transliteration.
